He died peacefully at home with all his family and loved ones around him.
I am sure all our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. All arrangements will be shared when known.
Pete Ryder 18th June 2008. 9.17am

Colin

It was terrible to hear the news of Colin's passing away, and writing this tribute to him is especially difficult. I have many fond memories of my time in the club, especially going on the club runs with Colin and the gang back in the 80's and 90's, there was always a laugh and joke even if the conditions were against us.
I would also like to say thanks to Pete for passing on a message to Colin, it was great that he remembered me, after a long absence from the club.
My condolences to Colin’s family and apologies for not being able to attend the funeral, he will not be forgotten nor will his moustache, jokes and laughter!

He was always very encouraging of other cyclists whatever their ability and he always made people feel welcome to the club (even if they were riding Shimano equipped bikes!). Colin’s positive and friendly attitude was inspiring and he will be dearly missed.
I am sorry I cannot attend the funeral.

My thoughts are with his family at this hard time.

I have not been involved with the club for a number of years now but will always remember him as always being cheerful, joking, and always a kind word. I will always remember ''Red leader'' on the early season Harp Reliability trials when the snow was falling and he would continually give everyone a cheerful smile and encouragement. I bumped into him recently ( only a few weeks ago) He seemed the same Colin that I had always known and gave no hint of the problems he must have had.I send my deepest condolances to his family and many friends that he had.

I think this was because, despite not knowing Colin for that long he was a friend for which nothing was too much trouble, generous in spirit and good to talk to.
He will be remembered by me, very fondly, as "Mr Campag" and a great advocate for Mid-Oxon Cycling club and cycling in general. He was very welcoming to me on first joining the club and also great company. Ted's DVD will be a lasting reminder for me of Colin's quiet leadership style, his sense of humour and the fun we all had at Riccionne a couple of years ago.
I once asked Colin, referring to the cancer, whether he had good days and bad days "...only good days Ian, only good days." was his reply. Typical of his positive outlook. He will be very sadly missed.

I think Colin had been a member for some time. We were about the same age and he and Eddie Luckett were a mainstay pair through the winter club runs. I can never recall an item out of place in his impeccable clothes and bike, I was continually jealous! Colin was one of the characters that make club cycling so enjoyable, never too demanding of others, calm, always humourous and tough enough. I bumped into him in Oxford from time to time, most recently a couple of months ago when he said the cancer had spread, but still the positive look in his eyes and the light touch in his humour. He seemed above the little rages and jealousies which run through all clubs and groups, he was a delight. His death brings tears to my eyes. Graham Smith

as some, but I will never forget how welcome Colin made me feel when I joined
Mid Oxon for my first Sunday run and when I heard how he had made sure others
made me welcome too it was clear that he was a much loved and well respected
man.
Sorry I can't be there on Friday but you'll be in
my thoughts. Mark Robbins

Having started going out on my own as a means of getting fit after a football injury, eventually I decided I needed some company, so I turned up on a Mid-Oxon club run one Sunday morning and was a little perturbed when, half an hour into the ride, I asked what 'CRT' stood for and was told 'Cycle Racing team'. Nevertheless everyone was very kind and made sure I wasn't left behind. Colin was in the group that day and was very welcoming to an absolute beginner. Eventually I got sucked into the Oxonians instead through cyclo-cross, but he never held it against me and was always friendly if we ran across each other out on the road. I did not see him very often but of course knew he had been diagnosed with cancer. When I last bumped into him in Headington he seemed to have made a good recovery, so I am extremely sorry to learn of his death. Unfortunately I can't be at the funeral because I shall be at a cycling competition in the Czech Republic, which in a way he can take some of the credit (or blame?) for; I have fond memories of those early runs with Colin and the Mid-Oxon crew which started me on the path into 'proper' cycling. I shall be thinking of him on Friday. Stuart Hathaway Oxonian CC

A most friendly and easy going 'bloke' you could ever wish to meet. I was fortunate to visit Colin at his home recently and spent a couple of hours 'chewing the cud' over the world of cycling and some of his personal achievements in his life. What a great guy! he will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this moment in time.
