Midoxon Cycle Racing Team

Mid Oxon CRT was born out of the frustrations of youth. The Bishop
brothers, Jeremy & Adam, along with other local club youngsters and a
couple of not so young gentlemen starting the club in 1987.
The formal and regimental way in which clubs were run did not fit the
way the younger generation of that time were thinking. There were two
options, change clubs existing ways of thinking/operating, or start a
new one. The latter seemed the easiest and fun way to go. The result
was Mid Oxon CRT.
Since its inception Mid Oxon's (CRT not now generally used) membership
has shifted from mainly young to mainly "mature". Its numbers are never
great but remain constant. It still maintains its informal, bordering on
casual, approach to the sport. Initially seen as rebels and sometimes
shunned, Mid Oxon has now gained respectability through its members,
though not necessarily through its racing prowess. Today, its riders are
primarily cyclists who enjoy cycling and the camaraderie that brings, be
it training, racing, club runs or Etape Du Tours.

WHC

General AnnouncementsPosted by david ricketts Mon, April 26, 2010 07:01:35
Excellent conditions for the 2010 WHC. started off by myself having missed Ian W et al at the start. Managed to form a good chain-gang with 3 other riders and started to move on fast. Then disaster struck about 8 miles befor that last food station, a blow-out. I managed to change the tube OK but the pump broke with it hadly inflated! so I rode on very carefully as the back wheel was moving about. I checked how I was getting on at the time, 19.4 mph average at 65m. At the feedstaion I used a fellow riders pump, only for the tube to 'pop' as I pumped. I had only carried 1 tube!! Lucky for me someone took pity and gave me a tube. By this time Phil had arrived and he kindly allowed me to use his pump without destroying it. There was no way I could make it under 5hrs so Phil and I made haste back to the finish. my computer time = 4.45 with 18.6 mph. Are well I'll have to do it again next year!

After a great start with Andy drafting along quickly within a large group of swift riders I hit a pot hole and got a flat. Andy powered on and from the above achieved a fantastic time. Whilst fiddling with my puncture a mechanical support vehicle pulled up and swiftly sorted me out with a stand up pump; great support. However 20 minutes dropped and all the fast groups had gone through. Cycling alone I was really struggling to keep a good time. In Marlborough came across Ian Watson whose gear cable had snapped and was stuck in 3rd gear; Ian borrowed my phone to get a broom wagon and they turned up almost immediately. Half way through and struggling until I came to the second pit stop and fuelled up on High5 Isogels and energy drinks- wow this stuff was like rocket fuel. Full of energy I powered up Uffington White Horse Hill and flew the remaining miles averaging 21mph into Shrivenham. Really good atmosphere throughout and plenty of support - great ride and will do again next year; hopefully going for Gold.
